One More Jazz Trade Rumour
Posted by Annie Whittaker on June 25, 2009

So this might just resemble something near to a post about trades, salary caps and the Jazz. I usually leave that kind of talk up to our specialists in that department; of which I do not belong. But in this case I’ve just got to give it a go. I heard on the radio that Fabricio Oberto of the San Antonio Spurs was traded. After running to my computer and furiously searching, I found out to my dismay that it was indeed true and I was disappointed.
Oberto was traded to the Bucks, and then to the Pistons for Amir Johnson. The fact that he was available at all was a little exciting. Every time the Jazz has played the Spurs, I’ve thought what a good match he would be for the Jazz, all that international experience, flowing hair, and oh yeah ability to play basketball.
But really, with a shave and shampoo, I bet he could clean up quite nicely. And imagine the fun that Jazz announcer, Dan Roberts could have pronouncing that spectacular name. Talk about euphonious!
For those of you who are all business, and think that my previous insight is frivolous, you might be right. But, I will remind you that I am also aware of the fact that the guy is a center which the Jazz could certainly use, not a rookie, but playing well for a guy his age, averaged 3.6 points and 3.9 rebounds with the Spurs during regular games and 7 points during the most recent playoffs, has NBA championship experience along with an Olympic gold medal, and is a “Sloan” type of player (except for the hair)-the guy puts forth the effort!!!
But alas, he has been traded.
But wait, Oberto’s contract of $3.8 million is not fully guaranteed. Detroit can waive him before July 1st and would only be responsible for a mere $1.9 million of his contract, leaving them with the potential to feel like they can still go shopping. According to nba.fanhouse.com, they think that Detroit will “let Oberto walk and use the savings to help make a run at a free agent such as” one Carlos Boozer or one Paul Milsap. And wouldn’t you know it? Those two guys play for the Utah Jazz. And, haven’t there been rumours for quite a while about Boozer wooing or being the wooie of the Pistons? Be still my beating heart! Except they should leave Paul alone.
Maybe there’s a slim chance that our Jazz roster could become even more internationally flavored, and that slim chance again that I will never have to hear someone bellowing “and one” after each and every one of his shots. Maybe we would hear “E Uno” or “Y Una” after each shot, but at least we’d get a little variety and a lot more defensive effort for putting up with it in return.
