i agree with that man. That’s pretty much liek saying you can’t be a jazz fan unless you played for them or work for them in some sort of way. I mean i’m a die hard michigan state fan but, i haven’t even been to see a game. I just love watching there team play and how they exicute every thing it’s like a work of art out on the court.

It’s not his job your right but, that’s not why his players don’t turnover to an NBA game. They don’t turn over because his system at duke doesn’t add up to an NBA system. It’s like the spread offence in college or option offence. You get up to the NFl and quarterbacks don’t know how to play any more cause it’s a totally diffrent system then what they ran in college. Coach K’s system is very similar.
He rotates alot of guys in so they aren’t NBA conditioned. There bodies aren’t ready to play 40 minutes a game. Not his fault he has to much talent not to play 10 11 guys deep. He also plays alot of defence and, slows down the ball. The nba doesn’t do that any more either it’s all about run and gun and, beating each other down the court.
One more note we did good in getting eric Maynor i liek him from the start Sutton not so much there is alot. More talent out there then him.

OK well if you put it that way i guarantee half of the fans or more of the big elite college schools NEVER went to school there. What about the kids that sign scholarships at these schools that they have been a fan of there whole life? Were they not really fans before that? Come on are you serious? Just because you dont go to a school does not mean you cant root for them. I am sure there are Jazz fans that dont live in Utah. So should they stop cheering for them. because shouldnt they cheer for the teams that are closest to them? For those of us who have been fans our whole life like Brian said its not a crime to be a fan of those teams.

Brian and Dallan,

I’m pretty sure none of us ever played pro ball, so if that’s the criteria for rooting for a PRO team, I think they’re all going to go out of business real soon. See the difference here?

College on the other hand, most of us went to and graduated from college (I’m assuming here). My opinion;The only reason not to root for the college you graduated from is if they don’t have a division I program in the sport you care about. And Brian, North Carolina has ALWAYS been good for at least as long as you’ve been alive. I know this, I went to and graduated from Maryland. I’ve been to a whole lot of UNC basketball games in my life. You being a BYU grad and rooting for UNC is just front running a sucessful program, nothing less. That’s just my opinion.

And I stand by my assesment of Hansbrough; he’ll hustle and work hard, and he’ll be pedestrian in the pros. That “shot put” shooting style of his will not work for a big man, and he’s too slow to boot. Go back and watch the UNC Oklahoma game during the tournament and see how Blake Griffin shut him down. In the pros, that’s going to be happening every night.

The reason why duke does not have such a high turnover rate is because coach K does not coach to send players to the nba he coaches them to win a national championship. Its not his job to get people ready for the NBA its his job to win a national championship. He finds players that fit what his system is and his other players which usually do not transfer to the NBA. But if you notice we are competitive year after year. And LPCity pretty sure you cant say that you cant be a fan just because you didnt go there! Did you play for the Jazz? Oh well then you cant be a fan. Thats ridiculous!!

LPCity- Don’t compare being a Tar Heels fan to being a fan of the Lakers. Don’t even go there. I have been wearing baby blue my whole life, so I think I have the right to cheer for my team and gloat a little when they win it all. Besides that, I have no problem with diehard Lakers fans that have been fans their whole life. I do have a problem with people that jump on the bandwagon when a team is winning. Its all about loyalty, and the only time I would ever cheer against UNC is if they were playing BYU in the tourny, and that’s only because I went there, and even then I wouldn’t be overly disappointed if BYU lost.

Don’t knock REAL fans. You don’t have to go to a school to root for a program you admire. My buddy is a diehard Redskins fan, but he has never been to Washington. Should I tell him to give it up because he doesn’t live there?

it depnds on the players the go to Duke. But i eel if Tyler went to duke he would be a better pro for it. You do got your busts in there but then you have guy that blossom into solid players like a Shane Batie. It all depends on the players heart and, will in the next level. But Coach K gets palyers more NBA ready then any other coah in college it’s up to them to excell at the next level

Unfortunately for the misinformed, going to Duke makes your pro prospects WORSE, not better in the NBA. North Carolina players have a MUCH greater success ratio in the league than the few dukies that actually make it there. And did any of you actually go to these schools? Or do you just like to root for high profile college programs? In that case, why don’t you root for the Lakers? They won it all this year, they’re pretty high profile right now.

BTW, Hansbrough will end up being a pedestrian pro at best. Mark MY words.

He doesn’t have the mind that coach K does. He is one of the greatest coaches of all time. Roy williams is a great coach but, nothing like coach has been.

O come on guys…Roy Williams has won two championships in five years with two completely different squads. Lets not turn this into a Blue Devils/Tar Heels thing. Tyler will be in the league for a long time. I would rather have a guy like him that has dominated at the next level down like no one else, than a guy that averaged 10 points a game but has a huge “upside”. What does that mean anyway? Its all speculation, Ill take the sure thing.

But coach K would have gotten that kid alot better then what Roy did for him. I think he is going to be one of many busts in this years draft.

I think, Mr. McCann, that you have let your loyalty to North Carolina pollute your opinion Yes, Tyler Hansbrough is a work horse. He plays every offensive and defensive possesion like it’s his last, and I admire that. However that can only get you so far in the NBA.Too many big men are very good in college, but end up being a bust in the NBA. He’s only 6′9″ and 240 lbs. That is more than likely not going to cut it in the NBA. It also doesn’t help that he can’t play anything other than forward or center. Tall white skinny players seem to have better success in Europe. I can see him playing there in the next few years. And yes, I am a big time Duke fan. However, I am also a big time Jazz fan. If I thought that Tyler Hansbrough could make a good impact on the Jazz I would be all for drafting him. I could be wrong, he might end up being a good NBA player. But I don’t see it happening at this point in time.

He would be just like every other power forward we have had after Karl then we could make the adjustment if he got hurt. I just want a guy like him to help us out on D and, what’’s good about him is he sat out alot of the season last year so he will be fresh and healthy for for this upcoming season. I think we could work out a deal with the Clippers maybe give up Carlos for Camby and a few other guys.

I’ve always liked Camby. Defense is his strong point, rebounding as well, doesn’t demand a lot of shots but gets his points from offensive boards and has a small but reliable inside game. For a big man, he’s a great passer but the one thing that worries me is that he is injury prone. He’s never played a full season, if I remember right, and he’s past his prime. Even so, I think he’d be a stellar pick up.

Ok your right super star is pushing it but, I think he will be a better player then Okur. I think he will put up number similar to Boozer. But we will find out if he is or not this year it sounds like with Okur leaning towards opting out and, Booze doing the same. Even though i think Booze will be back with us once he figures out he can’t make more money any where else but, that’s just what I think. And hey if they both leave we will see what Kosta had to offer. I think we should go for free agent chris anderson and, make a trade with the clippers for Camby. They are looking to get rid of him or Kaman since they drafted Griffin. I think they would be great fits here and, anderson and Camby would be a huge deffensive shot in the arm.

I agree with the Kosta coments as well. I guess for me, I’m thinking about the fact that most likely by the end of next summer, we wont have Booz or AK. Kosta is a Center, and even if we do move him over to the four, I think playing in the middle plays more to his strengths. Tyler would be a perfect backup for Paul.

I agree with Tman11 on this one. Tyler is going to be solid but no more solid than Kosta. I agree that Kosta has the potential to be a all-star, superstar might be pushing it, in the league. He’s a big with good touch, decent range, his footwork is good and getting better but what I like about him most of all is he plays on both ends of the floor. With hard work and some playing time I really think he is going to be something special.

I have to agree with you Brian . I think that Tyler will be a good solid player . I was so surprised that everone was saying that he would go so late in the round . When I saw him play I was qiute impressed with him . I would have been happy to see him in a Jazz uni . . Dont get me wrong I really like Fes and Kosta and I like their chances playing more for us this next season .
I really think that all you nay sayers out there are going to get a surprise when this kid gets in tune with the NBA . I also think that he was picked later than I expected . I was expecting him in the top 10 .
But as it is I want to see what we have in our new recruits . I cant wait for the season to start again .

He went much higher than I thought he would. I figured him to be a 18-25 guy but he went 13. Chase is right that we are better off without him. He seems like a Matt type player tough but under size.
