Ron Artest Is An Island

There is not one other guy in the NBA that thinks the way Ron Artest does. Maybe that is a good thing.  Ron Artest stands alone in many ways. Where do I begin.

After signing his rookie deal with Chicago, he spent a lot of money. Seeing that his funds were starting to run low he took the next obvious step, he applied for a part time job at a local Circuit City so he could save money with the employee discount.

It’s too bad the Circuit City gig never worked out because he could have used the discount to help pay for the video monitor and $100,000 dollar video camera he took from a reporters hands and smashed to the floor after a bad game in The Garden. Of course that was all just a warm up compared to what he did in Detroit.

You might remember the video of Artest charging into the stands to fight with Piston fans. That little mishap got him an 86 game suspension that consequently cost him roughly $6 million dollars in salary. It also cost Indiana it’s best run in the playoffs this decade. Without Artest, Indiana coughed up a 2-1 second round lead to the Pistons who went on to the Finals.

Of course in Indiana he also asked for a month off to promote an album and eventually was put on the inactive list after requesting a trade and trashing his teammates and organization to the the point where no one even wanted him in the building.

Times have been relatively quiet for Artest since then. Until now. He opted out of his contract in Houston and instead of shopping around and signing a much larger deal with the Rockets or another team – he takes the deal that Trevor Ariza thought was an insulting offer and signs with the Lakers.

Remember Boozer, Okur, and Korver opted in because they would have stood to earn less money in the current NBA financial climate.  Artest just doesn’t think like other guys in the NBA. Now that could be very a bad thing for every other team in the Association. Artest going to L.A. Can make the Lakers even tougher. If he keeps his head on straight the Lakers will be even better than last year. Of course fans of other teams can hope that L.A. Might provide other distracting temptations for Artest as well… where’s a circuit City when you need one.

bosh or anderson would be awesome!

We won’t get bosh but, we won’t be out first round next year either. The way i see it is Boozer isn’t going to get hurt this season if he does he will paly thru it. Because he want that big juicey contract next season. He shopped around this year but teams were to scared to take him cause he has been hurt for all four seasons he has been here. but if he does good and, palys all the games he will get alot more money next season, money he was expecting to get this season. So he will do every thing he can to play every game he can this next year. Alos anther piont to look at is the longer you keep your core guys together the better youa re because you develope more and, know how each other reaspons on the court to given situations. There are a few others like everyone know there role now for the jazz so it won’t be as compicated and, every one will understand what is expected out of them. Like Milsap and, AK last season they didn’t know if they were going to start half the time or not. I bet that was very frustrating epecially for a guy like AK who i hope does start next season. If he doesn’t they better be gettin rid of jerry cause that’s just stupid but, ay who I think even with those trades going on the jazz are still the 3 or 4th best team in the west when we are healthy. I think we will see a healthy jazz team next year and, what they can do. But you will not ever see Bosh in a jazz Jersey it just won’t happen

Everyone has their different opinion but I was quite thrilled to see Artest go to the Lakers. Think about Kobe and Artest on the same team. Can they fit that much ego into the forum at once? Then you put the ego of several of the others with it and even if I can’t spell very well I know that the combination spells TROUBLE. Talent? Yes, yes, yes it is but unless each of them have
had a lot of lessons in humility I just don’t see them playing well together. Also, like the other blog mentioned, there are a lot more things in that area to be tempting and their fans can be merciful if they aren’t pleased with everything you do while on the floor. The Jazz have some rabid fans but I personally think they are a little less vocal. They also carry less weight than fans such as Jack Nicholason, Dicaprio, and some other stars that are there. When, like Jack Nickolason has a contract that says they can’t film on the day of a Jazz game, you can demand what you want from someone and they had better produce. I may be very wrong but I think that Artest and Kobe are not a good duel.

WOw… i officially hate Kevin O’Conner… Is he actually getting paid for what hes doing.. I guess he’s just doing what Boozer did last season.. just about the money… 4 Point guards now and an OVER PAID AK-47… and a center who wishes he was a shooting guard… WOW WOW WOW… i feel bad for D-will…..

This is frustrating me beyond words.. I HOPE someone reads this and realises the JAZZ FANS ARENT HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!

tman11 on July 04, 2009 said:

Well i disaggree about are fans being less vocal that’s all you hear about when ESPN or TNT does jazz games is how loud and, mean they are. The diffrence is are fans can’t carry any wieght up against a guy liek Jack or Spike for the Knicks. Face it we dount have any movie stars or any thing that go to every jazz game and, that are died hard jazz fans. I’ll work on my signing career and, then when i’m famuos I’ll change that hahaha. I love jazz fans though we are mean loud and, crazy and, that’s all you hear about when are games are nationally telivised is how mean are fans are and, how loud they are.
As far as the other meassage on here. For one we only have 3 piont gaurds Knight is a free agent and, we haven’t signed him back on. AK was the face of your team yeah we drafted Dwill and, stuff but, kevin still thought AK would be the face of the jazz honest mistake. Anther piont about AK Jerry wrecked hs career by not playing him as much I wouldn’t blame it all on AK for his wo’s but put it on Jerry as well he hasn’t been smart on dealing with AK. As far as okur goes I agree with ya to a piont but, there isn’t to many center that put pionts on the board like he does either so i’m kind of neaturla on that remark. He has his good games and, his ok games. I will say this he could pass a little bit more but, he is one of the better centers in the league. There isn’t much competetion though at center

The jazz are like the top 5 most winnign franchises in the NBA in there history. I think O connor is smart not making trades. Because he knows it messes with the chemistery of a team trades a are good but, trades are bad as well. Tmac is a great example. He went to HOuston and, it hasn’t worked out at all. So it depends on who your trading for but, I feel like O connor is smart not trading guys around he can’t get any vavlue out of the guys he has.

The team is alright as long as we stay healthy. Finger-crossed!

Linda Kay on July 04, 2009 said:

Joshua….How the heck do you really know what Oconner does. He does almost everything behind closed doors because that is the way it is done. Some things are worked on for years ahead. I think he earnes every penny and more. You can say who should stay and who should go without having the faintest idea who O’Conner is working on, what other francises are saying and not saying. I can’t believe you can say that without knowing.

I agree with Linda , I think that KOC is doing hois best in making things work for both now and the future .
I can understand how Jazz fans can feel so frustrated with how things turned out in the previous seasons . I have felt them too . But the one thing that we have to remember is that I dont think that it is very smart to jump ship on your team until you have had enough time to see how they can be together . These guys didnt get to play a whole season together last season , and there is plenty of untapped talent on this team .
I think that the Lakers might have hurt themselves by breaking the team chemistry , a team that won it all this past season , just to get Artest . I also think that Artest and Kobe might be to much ego on one team .
I myself would like to see how this team can play when they are healthy all year . Plus I think that we will have a couple of young players that will get more playing time this year , and I for one would like to see what they can bring to the table this year .
Then if nothing works out then we go for a trade before the deadline . I beleive that this is what KOC and the Jazz org is thinking .
Lets go Jazz !!!!!

Why do people keep saying we’ll get bosch? I just don’t see that happening this year. I mean I like to dream too, but I don’t think that trade is gonna happen.

tman11 on July 06, 2009 said:

Yeah we aren’t even close to getting Bosh it won’t happen we don’t have any one to give them for Bosh. No one wants Boozer the only player of any trade value for a guy liek Bosh is Dwill and, we won’t trade him. If we do we got problems so yeah for get about getting bosh it’s not going to happen

artest hates kobe…i won’t be suprised if kobe takes a punch to the face mid season and the lakers end up having a lot of team issues.

tman11 on July 11, 2009 said:

Ron hates Kobe ummm wow they are pretty buddy buddy in the offseason for hating each other so much. Ron has said for about 3 years now he want to help kobe win a championship. Yeah is sound like they really hate each other. Ron has been saying he want s to paly with Kobe since he went to the Kings. They are great friends off the court just get really intense on the court.
