Prepare Your Stomachs Jazz Fans

The offseason always seems to last way too long for me. In some recent blog entries there has been some debate on which major pro sport is the most fan-friendly, the most exciting, and/or the most compelling. Some people say that the NBA season is too long and that pro American Football has an advantage in the fact that they maximize the anticipation for the upcoming season (somehow??) by making the off-season longer. Am I the only person who finds that to be completely illogical and ridiculous?

Is it wrong or outrageous to say that I would be completely happy to have no off-season at all? In all seriousness, I know these guys need a break but hell, so do I! I don’t get four months off and I work hard at my job! Ok, so I suppose I may be a little bit out of line here. Let me stop myself. (Pause) (Deep breath) (Sigh). I apologize but due to my intensifying Jazz withdrawals and focused sense of anticipation … I’m a little edgy.

I must admit that the off-season actually has its advantages. I consider myself a healthy, active person. So it is interesting to watch that when I track my weight, my BMI (body mass index) and just my overall health from day to day, there is a noticeable change as we transition from summer, to fall (Jazz season starts) and then abruptly back into the summer months (Jazz season ends). Do I think anyone cares about my seasonal changes in BMI, health and weight? Nope. So why am I talking about it? Who knows? But they let me, so heck why not right?

If you read my intro on the Jazzbots main page I mention that my blood pressure and daily disposition can change, depending on how well our guys are doing. I think that I am starting to realize that it may be far more reaching than I initially thought. Is this obsession? I do not know. And why do I feel compelled to repeatedly ask myself questions and then continue to answer them with more questions? That’s an even better question.

Either way, as we move closer to the commencement of the 2009-10 NBA season my focus has shifted a bit. I’m starting to realize that it may be worth taking some precautions and making some preparations for what I know I am physically going to do to myself. And if you are anything like me, so should you. More food, more parties, more moose tracks ice cream, more 4th-quarter BUTTERFLIES and if you’re into it, more beer. So people, consider this a pre-emptive notification. Get your Pepto-Bismol and Alka-Seltzer ready, and lose the weight you wanted to lose because chances are, it’s going to come back. Prepare your stomachs now because if this season is anywhere near as manic and gut-wrenching as the last, you’re certainly going to wish that you had. Go JAZZ!!!

I gained 10 lbs last season from eating way too many hot wings at Jazz parties. Chris the first step to recovery is admitting it…you are obsessed (so am I and I don’t want to recover either so I’m just sticking with staying on step one). My mood changes based on how the Jazz do as well. You didn’t want to be anywhere near me after the Miami game fiasco last season. Ooooo still makes me mad. So now the new routine, after last years gluttonous season is to add in a carrot stick every once in awhile.

I am not so sure that I gain or lose any weight , but I do get pretty emotional when I watch the Jazz play . They can really put me on an emotional roller coaster ride when watching them play .
But I wouldn’t miss it for the world though . I am so pumped for the season to start .
Go Jazz !!!!!!!

Unfortunately there are probably way to many of us Jazz fans that let the basketball season effect almost everything we do. I know I should help my kids with homework, do the wash or fix meals, but that all has to happen before the games start and when I get home at 4:45 and the game starts at 5:30 that leaves very little time to get all those other things in. I believe my family is grateful the seson is not longer, but I would love to let them wear dirty clothes, eat junk food and do their own homework til the middle of June.

lol what a funny post. I can relate, my emotions and daily habits are completely related to how the Jazz are doing!

Oh my goodness Chris. I’m with you–I NEED an off-season to recuperate from the emotional roller-coaster of the season!!!

But come this time of year, my body is fully charged and I’m ready to go. Bring on the season!

HAHA great post. I totally know how you feel. But I did get excited when I saw some pre-season football on this weekend, knowing that if the football season is almost starting, then basketball is not that far behind. I don’t gain weight, but I think my blood pressure goes on a roller coaster ride while watching games. Heck it doesn’t even have to be the Jazz. During the first round of the playoffs this season, I remember watching the Celtics and Bulls play in all those games hitting overtime and I swear I was having a heart attack. My boyfriend banished me to the garage to watch it because I was annoying him. Plus I have a punching bag in case I get frustrated :) Can’t wait for next season! It’s all in good fun anyway.
