Just A Small Favor
Posted by Mallory Meyer on September 24, 2009

Dear Dad,
First of all, I hope you still read this even though your name and picture were removed from this website. I guess Jazzbot administrators didn’t think you (and the rest of the family) was quite pulling its weight. So, I’m flying solo now (as if I wasn’t before!), but I really hope you and the rest of the fam still participate in the discussion just as you used to (i.e., leaving your comments of course).
Anyway, I’m mostly really hoping you still read this because I have an important favor to ask of you. You see, I’ve been a little down in the dumps lately. Life has been merely mediocre, but the good news is that I’m pretty sure I know the cure – Utah Jazz basketball.
Now stop the eye-rolling. I know you don’t agree with my obsession, but if it works it works, right?
I know that I need a little basketball in my life and I’ve tried many things to get that at the present moment, but to no avail. I attended the dodgeball tourney looking for some comfort. While it was a fun event, I left severely lacking. I realized I actually am itching to see a real, live basketball game, not just the delightful players who happen to play it.
So I tried watching a WNBA playoff game at the gym to see some basketball action– that lasted for about 36 seconds. I even thought that an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians would give me a basketball flavor seeing as one of those skanky girls is marrying Mr. Lamar Odom. But much unlike you and Call, I couldn’t keep my interest peaked.
Now I don’t know what else to try. All my attempts for some basketball goodness have been in vain. What I really need is for October 30th to come so that I can enjoy an actual game in the arena. Now I hear you have access to some darn good seats, and I was just wondering if maybe, possibly, hopefully you’d think about scoring those seats for you and your daughters. No pressure, but you’d be cooler than Ronnie B. if you happened to make that happen.
I can’t think of where I’d rather be on October 30th than with you and Call, in the arena, sitting third row, right behind the basket, wearing our jerseys, shouting at the players, gnawing on some licorice, and watching the game we all love.
Let’s make it happen.
With much love and appreciation,
–Your middle daughter, Mal

Mal,
If you were really the nice and kind person you seem to be, you would let me have those tickets with your dad and I would let you have mine that are half way up the upper bowl, almost behind the basket. I am sure your eyes are much bette than mine. I thought the Dodgeball Tounament went a long way in assuaging my need for Jazz basketball, especially at the end when 2/3 of the team were within reach. Only another week, hope we can all make it til then.

You may be the middle chilld…but you always get dibs on those great tickets before I (the oldest sister) even know dad has tickets. No hard feelings, though…it is the least I can do
Not to mention, it is pretty funny how dad skirts around letting me know the three of you are going to the game (in his defense, this has only happened a couple times
. Since dad is my roommate, I’ll see what I can do for ya!

Sounds like a family battle for a few good seats. I have no idea how great seats in that area would be so I can’t comment much on that. I’m trying not to look clear into the end of October but rather look forward to the pre-season the first of October!!

Mal,
I have been a fan of your blog posts for a while now, and have really enjoyed getting to know you (and your family) through your posts. I think what I enjoy most about the Jazzbots is discovering what makes the different bloggers tick. Most people live for the weekend. However, you guys live for basketball. I swear if the If the NBA season was the “weekend” of the year you guys would be that one kid who Friday afternoon was bouncing off the walls, chewing the eraser off the pencil, staring at the wall clock waiting for the school bell to ring. Truly an entertaining spectacle to participate in

Aaron…..What makes you think we don’t do that before every game? The reasons they have road trips is so we can let the bruises heal (bouncing off the wall get over the vomiting (eating all the erasers). Our eyes don’t get much rest because we are watching to see when the game starts on TV.. Glad you are blogging with us. We need a sane person once in awhile.

I couldn’t agree more about the seats… but I do love the Kardashians. (Even more now that Khloe is marrying Lamar

Come on Dad, cooler than Ronnie B.?! That’s quite the promise. Please don’t let your little Buckaroo down.
I’m in need of something to jazz up my life right now… no pun intended.

The best I can do is ask my dad for the comfy chair in the basement!!!! If misery truly loves company then I’d say (after reading the blogs and posts for the last month or so) that we have a full boat. I’m so BORED. WNBA (is that really even basketball…honestly?!) and reality TV shows are poor (very poor) substitutes for Jazz basketball. So here’s to the 28th of Oct for me (since I don’t have great access to tickets at the moment) when I can don my Milsap jersey, make nachos and curse out the refs and cheer for my favs.
P.S. I hope you get the tickets so you can write a blog about how nice it is to hang out on the 3rd row (bitterly jealous)
