Anything You Can Do…

Jazz Dancers
….I can do better.

Well, kinda.

I have recently taken up a hip hop class at the gym, and I must say that I’m loving it.  Not only does it make for a great work out, but it’s quite fun as well.  Probably the very best part is that the teacher plays a whole bunch of “arena” music that really pumps me up.

Last class, just as I was tiring and losing almost all of my energy, T-Pain’s “Low” started across the speakers.  It only took the first few beats, the “Mmm-Mmm-Mmm-Mmm-Mmm-Mm,” and the “Let it rain” before my mind took me to the ESA and a resurgence of energy flooded my body.  I suddenly danced my little heart out, and at one point I even looked in the mirror and thought, “I’m better than the Jazz dancers.”

Now lest you think I’m getting cocky, know that I’m mostly kidding.  But the serious part is that the Jazz dancers really do bug me.  It bugs me that they demonstrate a big fat zero of their true talent out on the court.   All they do is clap, shake, and jump around.  I promise you that that’s not that hard.   At all.  I can do that just as well as they can.

BUT…

The intriguing part is that these girls actually are really good dancers.  It takes tons of talent to make the team.  I would never make it, not even through the first round of tryouts.  But why aren’t we ever seeing any of this talent displayed out on the court? Why do we only see crappy dance moves that take energy yet no skill?

So ladies, I say you start demanding that your choreography actually showcase your dancing abilities.  That way you’ll start looking more like talented, fit women and less like floozy, dumb symbols.  Trust me.  The former image is much more respectable than the latter.

Can’t wait to see the transformation this season,

-Mal

I would love to see you in that hip hop class! When I was a teenager I used to laugh at the music used but now I would totally picture myself playing next to Deron Williams to get energy (which is funny because I don’t play basketball well). But I agree with you about the dancers..plus the costumes are terrible. Sadly, I think the men like it.

Maybe the dancers don’t show us their talent because they think anyone is even watching. I can’t believe that no one evens claps when the dancers finish. I think they do great but maybe that is because (since our wonderful car crash) I can’t even climb stairs correctly let alone dance. If I were coming to the practices all the time, expending that much energy every game and following all the rules that they have, I would get to where I could care less if I didn’t think anyone was watching me or appreciating what I do. I don’t come anywhere close to even pretending that I know dancing but I do know that I appreciate the dancers and do clap for them at the games. I also don’t remember how the subject was started last year on the blogs but I clearly remember that several of the males were crazy over the referee looking outfits. I keep looking at them carefully and still can’t see why the guys favor them so much..

I wish I could explain it Linda, The ref outfits are just HOT! I remember the discussion we had about it on the blogs and there is no rhyme or reason to it….it just is what it is. I actually remarked to my buddies last season that I didn’t understand why there were even Jazz dancers if they weren’t really going to dance?! Cheerleaders at the professional level just didn’t seem necessary. However, my friends were too gaga to hear my question and I went back to the scoreboard looking at foul trouble and who was having a good night. Maybe that’s why I’m not married…..hmmm? :)

Zac…You just need to find someone who like stats as much as you do! I’m sure they are out there. Linda

Oh Boondock, I’m with you on most things, but NOT the ref outfits. Those things are just awful.
